STATEMENT ON RACISM
The tragic deaths of Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, George Floyd and many others in recent years has created an outcry for the end of the mistreatment of African-American people among the citizens of the United States. As a Black-owned business, we are principally concerned with the struggle that African-American citizens have been fighting against since the intrusion, enslavement, colonization and marginalization under European powers since the Spanish brought the first enslaved Africans to what we know as the United States in 1526. We have personal experience with racism and know first-hand of its generational lasting effects on the Black community.
We have decided to do our part in working towards racial justice for all Black families, and have joined many others in supporting initiatives to end the cash bail system, support legal defense funds, create HBCU scholarships, establish urban community farms in food deserts, support Universal Healthcare, bringing environmental justice, Affordable Housing and many others issues important to Black America.

The efforts of Southern Music Academy and its partners has already raised over $40,000 for scholarships at HBCUs, including Dillard University and Morris Brown, and $35,000 for Soul Fire Farm (community farm working to end racial injustice).
